I've never had much of a chance to spend good quality time with my niece's.  They moved overseas about 4 1/2 years ago and they have been home for Christmas twice and every summer since then.  They are very active little girls, as their mom keeps them very busy.  They are very adventurous.  I have never felt we had a lot in common.  The first summer they came home from Dubai, I got "roped" into baby sitting for a full week.  Wasn't my plan, I thought they were going to take a break from their house with Nana and Papa and come stay a week with us along with their mom.  Mom had different plans, unbeknownst to me.  Her plan was for me to be the caretaker 24/7 for that week.  I was taken totally by surprise.  What do I, the couch potato, the one with no experience entertaining children, do with two very active little girls for an entire week?  Well, it was a long week to say the least.  I decided to put the girls to work helping me make strawberry jam one day.  I did most of the work but let them do little things like add the sugar and stir.  I thought they seemed totally bored with the whole thing.  I mean, how exciting can making strawberry jam be when you've traveled the globe?  Well, about two weeks ago when we were having dinner with the family, Kaleigh was sitting next to me and she asked if I remembered the time that she and Ashlyn helped me make strawberry jam.  I know I lit up like a Christmas tree.  Afterall, she actually remembered such an insignificant task.  And to beat it all, she told me she remembered that jam being the best strawberry jam she has ever eaten.  Love you Kaleigh.
